The Fan District Association would like to publicly thank Fan resident, Jack Glover, for his spectacular work: Fantale Fish. click here to see the artist working on FanTale Our entry into the “Go Fish!” public art visible all over Richmond swam into place at Meadow Park, at the corner of Park and Meadow. After delighting us this summer, Fantale will be auctioned off in October with its proceeds going to our Building Fund.
Jack says he is delighted with Fantale’s location since he put as much energy into the backside as the front. Jack started out with a “tiny outline” of the piece but he wasn’t really sure of all the detail until he had the fish “in his hands,” when the work itself became inspiration as he worked along. “Anything like this has to evolve, it’s sort of like watering a flower, you’re not sure how it’s going to end up.”
Jack hopes that Fantale highlights the flavor of the Fan – “the festive flavor that I feel exists here. It’s not so much about objects to depict as it is the festive atmosphere” we all enjoy. In fact, according to Jack, “the rooftops, porches, and architecture – especially with the flags and banners flying - remind me of beautiful party hats! We have something really good here and I wanted to reflect that.”
Kudos to Jack – we think his design is perfect! If you would like to make Fantale your very own to place in your garden or foyer, please watch for publicity about the auction particulars, or call 1708 Gallery on (804) 643-7829 for more information.
