Mission Statement: To provide a fair and equitable process for considering requests from, and making grant allocations to, other organizations serving the geographic area covered by the Fan District Association (the “FDA”) that are in need of financial assistance for programs or capital projects that benefit the community.
Activities: Review the history of the FDA related to its support of other organizations; provide instructions as to the procedure for submitting requests to the Board of the FDA; receive and review applications for financial assistance; report to the Board in writing or in person on the applications received and make a recommendation to the Board for their consideration; provide policy guidance to the Board as to the types of grants that should be made and recommend criteria therefore. Finally, notify applicants as to the resolution of their application and coordinate with the Treasurer of the FDA to arrange for the disbursement of funds to those organizations whose applications are approved by the Board.
Guiding Principle: The FDA expects to have a portion of its budget available for the support of other groups whose activities have the potential to enrich the lives of Fan area residents through operating programs or special capital projects that the FDA itself would not be in a position to undertake. The Board believes that it is in the best interests of its membership and the area’s residents to provide a clear and concise process for entertaining requests from groups in need of funding.
Procedures: Upon adoption of the FDA budget the Board will provide the Grants Committee with a budget for providing funding to other organizations. At the Board’s discretion, the budgeted amount may be amended from time to time and may be combined with funds previously provided to the Education Committee for distribution to area schools. The Committee will provide the initial review of all applications submitted. The Committee may prescribe the format for submission of funding requests. The Committee may reject applications that are not consistent with criteria approved by the Board. The Committee will make a recommendation to the Board for its consideration and will keep a record of grants approved for funding relative to the annual budget. The Committee’s role will be advisory and the approval process will at all times remain with the FDA Board of Directors.
