The Fan District Association (FDA) is Richmond's largest and most cohesive neighborhood association. The FDA was incorporated in 1961 and has been in continuous operation ever since. Its primary purpose is to promote the welfare of the Fan District and its residents. It provides Fan residents many opportunities for community involvement and an opportunity to participate in the community through a vast array of activities. Our organization is dedicated to representing the diversity of Fan residents and ensuring the maintenance and improvement of our unique living environment. Membership in the Fan District Association of Richmond, VA is open to “any individual or organization residing in or owning real property in the Fan District .” Renters, property owners, and those whose business, church, or other organization is located within the geographic boundaries of the Fan are eligible for membership. An organization that applies for membership is required to designate in writing one of its principals, partners, officers, or trustees as its designated member. No individual or organization is eligible to hold more than one membership. The Membership Committee, under the guidance of The Membership Chair, makes the final determination of eligibility and may require proof or evidence to make that determination.

Annual dues are only $15 per person or $20 per household (2 voting adults). Members receive advance notice of sponsored events and are eligible to vote, hold office, and chair committees. Membership in the West Avenue Improvement Association, Monument Avenue Preservation Society, West Grace Street Association, the Boulevard Association, or Your Neighbors Uptown does not automatically enroll you as a member of the Fan District Association.

Friends of the Fan are those individuals and organizations who desire to support our mission but are ineligible for membership. For an annual contribution equal to a member’s dues ($15), Friends are afforded all privileges except the right to vote. We strongly encourage all those who are eligible to join us to do so. As we represent the neighborhood with City Hall, the weight our position carries is directly proportional to the number of members we claim. If you are not a member, please think about the value of membership in the association and what it has done, is doing, and can do for both the community…and YOU! To join the Fan District Association, please file out one of the following;

(1) electronic E-membership Form and pay by credit card, or

(2) to pay by check, then print out the Membership Form and send it via US Mail or hand deliver with check for $15 per person or $20 per household per year to Membership 208 Strawberry Street, Richmond, VA 23220.
